Copyright

Copyright, unfortunately, is a subject of this project, in that various parties are attempting to diminish the public domain by arrogating various documents to themselves, preventing their free, unadulterated circulation. Copyfraud is especially detrimental to the practice of history, and to all of us as historical beings.

All the original writing on this site is copyright John Levin under the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike  License. Which means, in brief, you can do with it what you will as long as there is an acknowledgement and no enclosure of works built upon it. Frankly, I’m not happy with this license, but it will do pending something better.

As for the documents and illustrations, unless otherwise stated they are in the public domain and may be used by anyone, in any way, for any purpose, without any restriction whatsoever.

  1. Dear Mr Levin
I have just come across ‘your’ (?) article entitled ‘Alsatia’ on the internet.
I am a member of the Whitefriars Club; our toast commemorates, among other things, those “who, broken by fortune, dwell in Alsatia’. I was thinking of including an article in the next Journal on Alsatia and I would like to include yours. I have seen your comments on copyright. What credit would you like?
